Privacy Policy

The short version
ATR Prep doesn't ask you to sign in and never collects personal information like your name, email, or contacts. Your study progress, flashcard ratings, and exam history stay on your device.
To help us improve the app we collect anonymous usage analytics through a service called PostHog. The data is not tied to your identity, and you can turn analytics off at any time in Settings → Privacy → Share Analytics.
Data stored on your device
Study progress, flashcard ratings, exam history, your selected aircraft variant, and preferences are stored locally on your device using standard iOS and Android storage (AsyncStorage). This data never leaves your device. Uninstalling the app removes it.
Anonymous usage analytics
We use PostHog to understand how the app is used and to find bugs. PostHog acts as a data processor on our behalf. Data is sent to PostHog's EU region (eu.i.posthog.com) and processed within the EU.
We do not use any analytics SDKs other than PostHog. We do not run advertising, do not use advertising identifiers (IDFA, GAID), and do not sell or share data with third parties for marketing purposes.
Anonymous identifier
The PostHog SDK generates a random identifier the first time the app launches. This identifier is used to count unique installations and is not derived from your device's advertising ID, Apple ID, phone number, or any account. It is reset if you uninstall and reinstall the app.
Events we record
Each event is a small message describing something that happened in the app. We record events in these categories:
- Onboarding started and completed
- Flashcard sessions started, completed, or abandoned
- Exam sessions started and completed (including score and duration)
- Reporting an exam question, changing aircraft variant, resetting progress
- Opening the feedback form, rating the app, toggling analytics on or off
- Screen views (which screen of the app is shown)
- Unhandled errors (crash messages and stack traces)
Events carry only app-internal values such as counts, durations in seconds, scores, mode names ("smart", "exam", "all"), and internal question IDs (for example "limitations-1"). They never contain free-text you have typed.
Device and environment information
Alongside each event, the PostHog SDK automatically attaches standard technical context:
- Operating system and version (iOS / Android)
- App name, version, and build number
- Device type and model
- Locale, timezone, and screen dimensions
- Two app-specific properties: your selected aircraft variant ("600", "500", "legacy") and whether you have completed onboarding
IP address and approximate location
When events are received by PostHog, your IP address is recorded and used to derive approximate location at the country, region, and city level. We do not use this for advertising. The granularity is coarse and based on network address, not device GPS — we never request location permission and never read your device's GPS.
Crash and error reports
If the app encounters an unhandled error, the error message and stack trace are sent to PostHog so we can fix bugs. Stack traces describe code, not your inputs — and the app does not accept free-text from you in the first place.
Your choices
You can disable analytics at any time:
- Open the app and go to the Settings tab
- Open Privacy
- Turn off Share Analytics
Once turned off, no further events are sent from your device until you turn it back on. Analytics is on by default.
Legal basis (UK / EU)
If UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies to you, our legal basis for processing anonymous analytics is our legitimate interest in understanding how the app is used so we can improve it. The data is not used to identify you, and you can opt out at any time as described above.
App stores
When you download or update the app, Apple's App Store and Google Play handle the transaction under their own privacy policies. We don't receive any personally identifying information about you from them.
Children
The app is intended for adult pilots and is not directed at children. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If we materially change what we collect, we'll update this page and the "Last updated" date above before the change ships in the app.
